We offer several LEGO STEM hands-on classes that use LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 Core Sets to combine the LEGO bricks and classroom-friendly software to engage standards-based projects and a discovery-based approach. Students collaborate and are introduced to computational thinking and engineering principles in a fun and engaging way. We offer these classes throughout the year and each class is a 6-week session. The STEM classes offered as part of our NSAE are separate from STEM offerings that are apart of our daily curriculum. A few of the classes we offer are:
JR. Engineering Class
This is a hands-on class for Grades K-2 grade students to build and design with LEGO® bricks. Student Engineers will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while exploring engineering, architecture, inventions, and physics. Explore physics and engineering through Lego models using gears, pulleys, cams, and motors to bring your creations to life!
Jr. Robotic Class
Students will be able to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as well as language, literacy, and social studies. This is a great class to introduce students to these concepts and plant the seed for future interests in engineering and programming.
Chess Classes are offered year long. We offer 5 sessions and each session is 6 weeks long. Students will participate in a fun variation of games, tournaments, lessons, and special matches, all while improving their creative problem solving and analytical skills! Each class begins by dividing the students into groups based on level of experience and ends with an exciting awards ceremony. While informative, these sessions are not hyper-competitive and the emphasis is always on the enjoyment and love for the game.
