Parent Teacher Fellowship: Being a Part of Something Bigger

The mission is simple: to build an even stronger school community. How?  By partnering together with families and staff through volunteer opportunities, events, and effective fundraising--all with God as the foundation. So…why is this so important? I'm glad you're wondering! At Northshore Christian Academy, we believe in the importance of a true partnership. A culture of teamwork with teachers and parent involvement that creates a school climate where students can achieve their best.

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.

-Matthew 18:20

I recently had the opportunity to catch up with a few of our amazing NCAPTF volunteers who spoke more about what this culture of teamwork and involvement truly looks like and what it means to their families. These are the parents who love not just their children, but teachers and staff so deeply. They give their time, efforts, and heart in various ways to help pour into this partnership and make our school feel even more loved and cared for.

JUST SOME OF THE KEY THINGS PTF VOLUNTEERS DO INCLUDE:

  • Promoting parent involvement in school activities

  • Encouraging teachers by providing parent support & assistance in the classroom

  • Volunteering time and talents for special events and fundraising activities

  • Provide a mechanism for parents to meet and fellowship with other parents

Messages from our PTF Members:

Volunteering with PTF has truly been a blessing because there are opportunities for everyone to contribute in ways that fit their schedule and abilities. The most exciting part for me has been seeing how much joy and community PTF brings to the school. It’s been so rewarding to help create experiences and memories for the students, teachers, and families while also getting to know so many wonderful people along the way.

Parent of a Preschool and 2nd grader

I enjoy making connections with other parents, getting to know and encourage the staff, and watching the students grow year after year as I volunteer at the school. I enjoy seeing and being a part of the students’ and teachers’ days, offering some freshly popped popcorn, a friendly smile, and prayers.

In planning the school-wide International Day, I love being able to help create additional positive learning experiences for staff and students at the school. I love the strong relationships that are built over time between volunteers who come together and initially don’t know each other at all.

Parent of a 6th and 8th grader

I have enjoyed getting to know other parents, serving alongside them, and learning more about what is going on at NCA. Each meeting has a different speaker from the academy, and they update on something happening within the school. I also love meeting families with kids of all ages.I also appreciate that you can give as much as or as little as your schedule allows. I believe anyone can serve on PTF and find the right fit for their schedule and desire!

Parent of a 2nd grader and Kindergartener

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

-Hebrews 10:24-25

In today's world, parents seem busier than ever, juggling countless responsibilities and trying to fit more into each day. As a result, the thought of taking on one more commitment can feel overwhelming. Yet joining the PTF offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with your child's school, support teachers and staff, and help create a stronger, more vibrant community for all students. The time you give, whether large or small, can have a lasting impact.

One thing I would share is that volunteering doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. PTF is about community, not perfection. Every parent has something valuable to offer, whether it’s time, ideas, encouragement, or helping behind the scenes. When parents come together, it strengthens the entire school community and shows our children the importance of service, faith, and connection. I would encourage any parent to volunteer because it creates a stronger sense of belonging and partnership within the school, and it’s such a positive way to support our children.

If parents can spare an hour or two here and there, it makes a huge difference so I highly encourage them to get their feet wet that way.  I know people have really busy schedules but I think they will find it a worthy investment of their time - the impact that they have on the school will be felt by many and be lasting.

When my family first started at NCA, we knew no one and few connections within the school. Now I feel like NCA is a part of my family and truly hope all families at NCA feel as welcomed and blessed to be a part of this incredible community. Getting involved with any amount of volunteering at the school is an impactful way to plug into our school family. In some seasons of life, I only had a small amount of time and energy to give, but God graciously multiplies every effort, however small it may seem to us, in amazing ways throughout the school.
