Who Are D.O.G.S.®?

"DOGS” stands for Dads* of Great Students, and that’s you! Since launching our NCA WatchDOGS program in 2013, our volunteers have become an invaluable part of our school community. In our very first year, 200 men signed up to make a difference!

*We invite dads, grandpas, uncles, mentors, and all men who love and lead our students to spend a day on campus, serving and investing in our school community

The goal is to strengthen the school community through connection, helping create an environment that is safe, welcoming, and encouraging for every student. Your presence matters, and it helps reinforce the Christ-centered culture of care, respect, and engagement that defines NCA.

Our goal is to have one or two positive male role models on campus every school day, men who contribute to a strong, supportive school culture rooted in faith, character, and service, simply by showing up. Thank you for being part of this meaningful initiative and for the lasting impact you make through your presence.

Sign-ups for 2025-2026 School Year are Open!

(Please note that all NCA volunteers must complete our required National Background Check prior to volunteering on campus)

WILL I ONLY HELP IN MY CHILD’S CLASSROOM?

WatchDOGS serve all across campus, wherever there’s a need.

You’ll have a unique opportunity to step right into your student’s world; spending time in their homeroom, joining a specialist class, and getting a glimpse of the joy, learning, and faith that fill life at NCA. And of course, you’ll be right there for lunch and recess!

Throughout the day, you may also support other areas of campus as needs arise. This helps meet needs across the school and gives you a broader view of all that’s happening here. Occasionally, you may assist another grade level, but your focus is to stay present, engaged, and ready to serve wherever you’re needed most.

You’ll also play an important role behind the scenes; helping with things like Lost & Found, supporting our Facilities Team with outdoor tasks, or participating in a campus security walk.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I’M IN A CLASSROOM?

Be ready to jump in and help wherever you’re needed! Teachers may ask you to work with small groups on math, reading, or spelling, assist with tasks like copying or organizing materials, or help with grading and filing student work. Your willingness to serve makes a meaningful impact.

WHAT DO I DO AT RECESS AND IN THE LUNCHROOM?

This is one of the best parts of the day!

At recess, you may join games, start activities, or simply help support a safe and positive play environment by being present and attentive.

In the lunchroom, take time to connect with students by sitting or standing with them and asking friendly, open-ended questions. This is a great way to build relationships and enjoy meaningful conversation.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I SEE A DISCIPLINE ISSUE?

WatchDOGS are not responsible for disciplining students. If a situation needs attention, please notify the teacher or supervising staff member right away, or report it to the office if it occurs outside the classroom. Your presence and example help reinforce expectations in a positive way.

As a WatchDOG, you help create a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for all students. You can support this by offering simple, positive reminders such as, “Let’s use level 1 voices”

HEAR FROM PAST WATCHDOGS

Getting to help out in each period was a great way to get to know my child’s teachers and classmates!

Recess, security walks, and even outdoor chores were fun, especially with another WatchDOG parent to work with. The kids’ energy and the staff’s encouragement made the day memorable.

The flow of the day was impressive. Transitions were smooth, staff were helpful, and the entire school felt positive and upbeat. What an awesome community.

Everyone was wonderful and made me feel so comfortable and welcome!

I really enjoyed sitting in the specialist classes.
