Sixth Grade Overview
Sixth grade is a turning point from elementary to secondary education. We skillfully prepare each student for success. Each is seen as an individual created by God for a great purpose. NCA provides opportunities to build on those strengths and hidden talents. We provide new opportunities within nurturing, supportive classrooms.
The Sixth-grade program intentionally builds the schedule, course content, events, and small family-like community to nurture the healthy growth and development for this age group. Each day starts with Bible class to set the tempo for the day. Students receive instruction from a variety of master teachers who are passionate about their subject and explore various electives ot foster personal growth.
Our program focuses not only on the exemplary academics and the spiritual development of each student, but also on their social and emotional development. Our program diligently works to support each of our students in their scholarly and personal endeavors, as it helps shape and mold them into thriving members of our community.
SIXTH GRADE TEACHERS
Our teachers love sixth graders and are skilled in preparing them for a bright future. Students experience incredible educators who have the high distinction of many years of experience, advanced education, and ACSI teaching certificates. Our teachers feel called by God to be exemplary educators.
Through collaborative teamwork, our teachers create an environment of dynamically different teaching styles and strategically consistent curriculum. This allows teachers to successfully impact students by supporting all different learning styles. Northshore’s teamwork approach in evaluating data, such as our standardized testing, helps our program continue to be at the forefront of producing students ready to lead the world.

Biblical Studies
At NCA we desire for young people to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We endeavor to develop that relationship by equipping students with knowledge and application of the Word of God. Using our Walking in Truth curriculum, sixth graders will explore Christian answers to worldview questions about God, the universe, people, truth, and right and wrong. The second half of the course will focus on a Biblical survey of Genesis to the Gospels followed by an in depth study of the Acts of the Apostles.

Ancient Civilizations
Students will tour the lands, peoples, and cultures of ancient civilizations in Africa, Asia,
Europe, Middle East and the Americas. Students will learn the history and influences of these peoples on religion and the world today. They will expand their Christian worldview as they compare ancient beliefs and religions with Christianity. Students will enrich their critical thinking skills through the use of maps, charts, primary sources, and activities.
English Language Arts
The middle school language arts program is designed to inspire life-long readers and for students to become confident communicators. Students work with a variety of written forms, developing their own voice and style. We endeavor to equip students with clear writing skills and the ability to express themselves in an articulate manner.

Mathematics
Students are placed in math courses based upon teacher recommendations, placement exams, MAP scores, current achievement and motivation, and mastery of prerequisite concepts. Students in any honors or advanced math course must maintain an 80% (B-) each semester.

Science
In Physical Science, students will explore God’s handiwork in the universe, life, technology, and the interaction of natural systems. They will critically analyze scientific concepts through a Biblical worldview, emphasizing the scientific process and God’s sovereignty in His creation. Students will engage with the material through hands-on experiments, close reading of the text, maintaining an interactive notebook, assessments, and summative Quests, where they demonstrate their learning through projects.
