what is Walk-a-thon?
We value our traditions! One of our most exciting and longest running traditions at Northshore is our annual Walk-a-Thon. For 21 years, our school community has rallied around this exciting spring fundraiser that is one of our two major annual fundraisers that raise significant financial resources for strategic initiatives that benefit every student on our campus.
The 5 week program begins in late April and culminates in June with our exciting school-wide Walk-a-Thon Celebration Event Day – a celebration of the year for all to attend! What happens leading up to the event, however, is what sets it apart! Each year’s theme shares a message of something foundational NCA message and points to our commitment to a Christ-centered education.
As a result, our school community has benefitted tremendously from donor-funded projects such as the new sports court, our huge playground structures, classroom Promethean boards, STEM program enhancements, safety & security upgrades and so much more. Careful and intentional stewardship of donated funds has contributed to an educational experience like none other.
2025 NCA Walk-a-Thon Funding Focus

After careful consideration & prayerful reflection, we are excited to announce this year’s funding focus for our 2025 Walk-a-Thon.
- We are excited to expand our STEAM program through the establishment of our Horticultural Science Program at NCA. The horticultural science laboratory will be a new greenhouse laboratory classroom where students will deepen their understanding of life and earth sciences, sustainability, and conservation. Additionally, this investment will create a new dimension to understanding the principles Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God through parables.
- Our Middle School Division is expanding the elective offerings to include 4 quarters of horticultural classes to enjoy this new space. Our Elementary Divisions will have weekly access through their Super Science & PLTW classes.
- We anticipate this new laboratory to be fully finished in the first quarter of 2026.
2. Playground Master Plan Phase 2
- Through our 2024 Fall Online Auction, our school community raised enough funds to accomplish Phase 1 of our Playground Master Plan: the replacement of our 2 massive playground shade coverings. With the remaining funds from the online auction and some of the proceeds from our 2025 Walk-a-Thon, we plan to begin making progress on Phase 2 of our Playground Master Plan: investing in new play and climbing structures to reimagine the large play area of our Early Learning playground into 3 dynamic play spaces.
3. Teacher Excellence Awards
- Several years ago, we established the NCA Teacher Excellence Awards, the highest honor an NCA Faculty member can receive at Northshore Christian Academy. Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and affirmed by the Academic Leadership Team. Winners receive a cash bonus, and the special distinction of a Teacher of Excellence at NCA.
