what is Walk-a-thon?

We value our traditions! One of our most exciting and longest running traditions at Northshore is our annual Walk-A-Thon. For many years, our school community has rallied around this exciting spring fundraiser that is one of our two major annual fundraisers that raise significant financial resources for strategic initiatives that benefit every student on our campus.

The program begins in late April and culminates in June with our exciting school-wide Walk-A-Thon Celebration Event Day – a celebration of the year for all to attend! What happens leading up to the event, however, is what sets it apart! Each year’s theme shares a message of something foundational NCA message and points to our commitment to a Christ-centered education.

As a result, our school community has benefitted tremendously from donor-funded projects such as the new sports court, our huge playground structures, classroom Promethean boards, S.T.E.A.M. program enhancements, safety & security upgrades and so much more. Careful and intentional stewardship of donated funds has contributed to an educational experience like none other.

As we prepare for our 2026 Spring Walk-A-Thon, we are excited to announce this year’s funding focus: NCA School Bus and transportation infrastructure.

With our continued growth of more than 1,130 students and the expansion of our academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs, the need for increased transportation capacity has never been greater. While our current shuttle vehicles have served us well, they are approaching the end of their life and barely provide enough seating for one academic class to be transported.

One of the main themes we saw in last year’s parent satisfaction survey was the need for consistent, safe transportation specifically for our field trips. By not having our own bus, it requires a fleet of parent chaperones to transport our grade of 100+ students. We believe field trips are an essential part of holistic educational experiences.

If funds allow, this year’s funding focus will:

Purchase a full-sized school bus
Construction of a cover to protect & preserve the bus
NCA branding of the school bus
Auxiliary costs associated with the cost of operating our bus in the first year

Student groups & activities that will benefit include:

Elementary Class Field Trips (Kindergarten through Fifth Grades)
Summer Adventures Weekly Field Trips
Middle School Academic & Extracurricular Activities
- Social Studies Trip to the Capital
- Athletics Practices & Competitions
- Robotics Competitions

As Northshore continues to grow in excellence—academically, spiritually, and through extracurriculars—this investment represents wise stewardship and a commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation for the educational experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Teacher Excellence Awards

Several years ago, we established the NCA Teacher Excellence Awards, the highest honor an NCA Faculty member can receive at Northshore Christian Academy. Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and affirmed by the Academic Leadership Team. Winners receive a cash bonus, and the special distinction of a Teacher of Excellence at NCA.
