In today’s ever-changing world, the concept of school safety has taken on new dimensions. Safety isn’t just about rules - it’s about wisdom. From physical security to emotional well-being, digital protection to spiritual discernment, the need to safeguard our lives—and the lives of those entrusted to us—has never been more pressing. At Northshore Christian Academy, safety isn’t just a policy; it’s a calling rooted in Scripture, stewardship, and love. There's no denying the reality and hard truth that we live in a broken world, and we're all in desperate need of our Savior.
The Bible speaks clearly about the importance of watchfulness and protection:
"The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. "
- Proverbs 27:12
I recently got to sit down with Tom Goepfert, our Campus Safety Officer, and asked him some questions that, as parents- we often care most about knowing.
Officer Tom, what exactly is our school doing to stay safe?
Do we let any visitors in on campus, and what about volunteers that help on campus often?
we share a campus with Northshore Christian Church and I imagine people are always coming and going, are we protecting our students in any way in regards to this?
How do we ensure students know what to do when there is an intruder of any kind?
What is your role as the Campus Security Officer?
At NCA, our posture is to be alert, prepared, and proactive. Safety is not a lack of trust in God; it’s an expression of that trust through responsible action. Like Officer Tom said, let us be prepared, not paranoid. It's also important to share, on behalf of NCA, that we are so appreciative to our NCA parents as they have been so patient during our safety progressions as we alter and make changes for security sake. NCA should not only be a safe haven, but also a beacon of light in the community. And let us remember that safety, when rooted in faith, becomes a powerful testimony of God’s love and wisdom in action.
Let me conclude with this honorable quote NCA received from the EPD:
'You (NCA) are doing most everything right when it comes to CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles.'
