Student Health and Safety

Student Health and Safety are important at NCA!

We use three guiding principles that are reflected through our Health and Safety program.

  • Individualized Care: we strive to know and understand each child.
  • Systematic Planning: we strive to meet student needs through systems and routines.
  • Preparing for the unexpected: safety training throughout the school year.

There are systems that care for the health and safety of each individual through screening and preparing for the unexpected.

Health:

  • EMT or RN on duty every day.
  • All staff trained in CPR, First Aid, allergies, emergency preparedness, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Strict compliance with child immunization standards, infectious disease control, and county health district reporting.
  • The health committee meets to plan and discuss the health program at NCA.
  • Student injuries and illnesses are reported, documented and reviewed monthly for patterns.

Safety:

  • Playground equipment and ground cover are checked monthly.
  • Recess staff to student ratio far exceeds other local schools' protocol.
  • Monthly emergency drills (fire drills, earthquake drill, lockdown, and shelter in place)
  • Crisis management contingency plans are in place for various disasters. Supplies, equipment, and food are stocked and ready. An emergency manual is in order with trained personnel in place.
  • Background checks for all school volunteers and staff.  We require state and nation screening.
  • During school hours, each visitor is screened.  They must pass the school gate guardian at the front desk and wear a name badge.
  • Partnership and regular visits from various public safety officials.
