The results are in, and we are thrilled to announce that two students from Northshore Christian Academy have won top honors in the prestigious International Math Competition (formerly known as Math Olympics)!
Over the course of four rigorous months, students from across the globe participated in four rounds of testing, with three tests per level. More than 250 schools from four countries competed, totaling over 6,000 participants in grades 3–8.
Out of this incredibly competitive field, NCA had five semi-finalists, and only the top five students from each category were crowned merit winners and awarded medals. Any of the 250 schools would be proud to have a student finish as a "worldwide merit winner". We are proud to announce that two of our students were awarded as worldwide winners!

About the International Math Competition
The International Math Competition (IMC) is a digital, global event that encourages academic excellence and deep mathematical thinking in students grades 3–8. Formerly known as the Math Olympics, the IMC focuses purely on performance-based advancement, not geography or division. Students compete individually, and advancement is determined by scores alone.
Level 1:
Open to all ACSI students worldwide, Level 1 challenges students with core mathematical concepts. This year, more than 6,000 students from 250+ schools participated. “Award” certificates were distributed to students to signify the following achievements.
Level 2:
Only the top 28% of students advanced to Level 2, where the problems grew in complexity and depth.
Level 3:
Only the top 8% of students progressed to Level 3, the elite round of the competition. Here, participants faced the most demanding mathematical challenges, and only one student per grade level and category would be named an International Merit Winner.
- “Semi-finalists” are the top 20% scorers of Level 2 testing
- “Merit” winners are the top 20% scorers of Level 3 testing
- Medals will be awarded to the top 5 scorers of Level 3 testing

A Proud Moment for NCA
It is no small feat for a school to have a student reach Level 3, let alone have two students win and be in the top 5! We are incredibly proud of Lucas Popescu and David Holmes for representing NCA with excellence on an international stage. Their achievements remind us of the importance of perseverance, hard work, and using our talents for God’s glory.
Beyond the top awards, we celebrate every student who stepped up to participate. Your willingness to challenge yourselves and grow is truly remarkable. We’re proud of each and every one of you.
