Northshore Christian Academy has a vision for all students to thrive in mathematics. To support all learners, we offer advanced classes starting in second grade and additional help for students who struggle.
At NCA, students have access to a quality of education they might not have at their local public school. On average, our math students test a grade level above their peers nationwide. Our private school math program provides the rigor and support every student needs to achieve their potential.
Challenging Coursework for Advanced Math Students
For students who excel in math and are ready for a challenge, classes above grade level are offered starting in second grade. Students with high MAP scores, good math grades, and interest are considered for advancement. Once placed on this track, students remain there unless they fall below 80%.
Advanced math students typically work over the summer to keep their skills sharp, desire extra homework to ensure mastery, and work hard at home on math fact fluency. A few students show readiness to skip two grade levels ahead. NCA is structured to offer students geometry in middle school, so even our “super skippers” may continue to flourish.
Support for Students Who Struggle
As students work hard daily to grasp the math concepts taught in class, NCA supports students who struggle. In third through fifth grades, free tutoring is offered once a week after school. Teachers nominate students who would most benefit from this support and parents approve the help.
In middle school, Math Lab is an elective class offered twice a week that offers targeted instruction for students in math.
Math Education From a Christian Perspective
At NCA, a firm foundation of Biblical truth is taught in conjunction with a solid mathematical foundation. We believe math is a window to learning about God’s very nature of order and structure.
Through the partnership of teachers and parents, each student is able to achieve their personal best.
